“Leon is so Lana Del Rey”, “Leon is so deftones” STFU that man listens to Nickelback and Linkin Park on the daily (he has my older brothers music taste fr)
One thing I love about Tumblr that wasn’t a thing on Reddit is that I can just write whatever the fuck text post I want. No titles. No putting text on images. No algorithms or karma. Just fuckin splatter your mind onto the screen and people will see it. Like god intended.
It’s one of the best things.
My Post: haha in a fleeeeb beepo bingus kinda mood rn
Senior tumblrists:
I’m seeing so much oceangate stuff on my dash. I can understand why the media got obsessed with this story, but not why everyone on tumblr did.
I’m seeing a lot of posts about the 19 yrs old for example - and yeah, of course I’m sorry for the kid. It sucks.
And I get the compassion fatigue. I get not being able to be empathetic and grieve and be mad all day for every single disaster that happens. But I feel like the kind of things you choose to pay more attention to, and why you choose them, should be examined more carefully.Yes, that kid was 19 and scared shitless of the trip, and it sucks he had to die. But… this was one person, who took a bad decision. You remember the boat full of migrants that capsized off the coats of Greece? There were… hundreds of people there, many of them children. And they were also really scared, and died an horrific death. That’s without even taking into account the kind of life they had to endure before, if they thought this was a chance worth taking for something better.
Please, do reflect on what kind of tragedies you see talked about more often. And ask yourself why that happens.
I tried giving myself answers - I’m still not sure what’s the right one. Is it because tumblr is quite americanocentric, and usually uninterested with events happening in other parts of the word?
Is it simply because those were rich people who died, and thus they got more coverage, and people tend to only comment whatever headlines they see that are bigger?
Or is it some kind of almost on-purpose turning away from actual, preventable tragedies, ones that are symptomatic of bigger than life societal issues - and instead choosing to focus on what amounts to “rich people drama”? Because, let’s be honest: 750 migrants left to die on a boat is just heart wrenching, and makes us feel hopeless and powerless. But four millionares dead for their own stupidity? That stops being a simple tragedy, and starts being entertainment. If you read this post - if nothing else, I hope it could’ve helped you reflect on why you engage with the sort of news that you do, and if there’s any news that you tend to ignore on purpose instead. I know I do. I’m trying to change.
ngl i feel bad for the kid and the researcher on the titan submarine
THEY KNEW
THEY FUCKING KNEW IT HAD IMPLODED AND THEY STILL WASTED TAX DOLLARS TRYING TO RECOVER WHAT AMOUNTED TO A 5-PERSON SALT SOUP FROM THE OCEAN FUCK FLOOR
WHY AREN’T WE FORCING THEIR FUCKING ESTATES TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN SEARCH AND RESCUE?!?!
WHY ARE WE WASTING TAX DOLLARS TO RESCUE PEOPLE WHO DON’T EVEN PAY TAXES?!??
EAT THE GODDAMNED RICH
This will probably be the last thing I say (not reblog but say) about the oceangate titan.
You will not be able to shame me about laughing at it and not caring about their death for one simple reason; I refuse to aknowlege that those five people matter more than other people. The round the clock coverage and tens of million dollar search for four days (after the navy told people they heard the implosion on sunday but no one announced that did they) is screaming at me to care about them as if they mattered more than other people.
they dont and they shouldnt. i refuse to play that game and i shall gleefully celebrate the deaths of billionaires, one of who murdered his own son and heir.
fuck em.
The people who are like “why are you wishing death on these billionaires?!” are not understanding what is going on. It’s one thing to wish death on people and it’s another thing to have no sympathy for people who died in a situation they were cautioned heavily to not do.
I don’t want anyone to die, to be truthful; but here are the facts:
- That sub is 2 miles down in the ocean where the pressure is immense and the temperature is unbearable.
- The Titanic wreckage is literally 111 years old. The Titanic is wasting away and any slight jarring on her will cause her to collapse in that space. This is not new news.
- The safest way to experience the Titanic’s wreckage is looking through archives OR going to the museum. I know it would be astounding to look at in person, but… no.
- Most importantly, the wreckage is also a graveyard. People’s bones disintegrated because of the pressure and salinity of the water, but the shoes, that were treated with tannic acid, remain. Anybody with common sense knows that you don’t go an disturb and desecrate graveyards. You just don’t.
So, no… I feel zero sympathy for those people who should’ve just been told “no” more often in their life.
the oceangate situation is really funny but i do want to take a moment to look at the fact that five people of their own volition decide to go two miles under the sea in something controlled by a $30 xbox controller with no beacon or way to navigate, go missing, and immediately a massive search effort is underway with people anxiously combing the ocean for any sign of these chucklefucks, but the greek coast guard capsized a boat full of hundreds of migrants, killing 80 with over 500 people still counted as missing, and the eu won’t even investigate
you can and should hate rich people, but you also need to show up for the oppressed
While every force available in the world is searching for the 5 people in the oceangate submersible, a boat filled with mostly Syrian and Pakistani refugees sank under still “unknown” circumstances off the coast of Peloponnisos, Greece (with the coast guard present). More than 600 people drowned but guess which of the two is making headlines
Sad but true.
i just want to take a bite bro please
it’s the way I’m FUCKIN SCREAMING
